When the Pilgrims arrived, they arrived right before winter. They didn't have enough food when they came. Half of the colony died. Even before winter, they were so busy getting food, they didn't have time for anything else. The Pilgrims blew off course, and were not where they wanted to be. They wanted to go to Virginia, which was already settled with food. But that didn't happen. After Plymouth and Jamestown, the colonists did not have as many hardships.
